"Golden Years Pets"

Adoption fees are waived for pets eight years and older adopted by senior citizens 60 years and older with the Ark’s "Golden Years" program.

The Ark proudly announces the foundation of a new program to honor and support our older animals: AARP (Ark Association of Retired Pets)

Below are "Golden Years" pets available for adoption. There are several good reasons to consider adopting an older pet.

Older animals tend to be quieter and less active than youngsters. This may be a good match for quieter people.

Older pets need and deserve good homes, but are often passed over for younger animals. Those of us who are sensitive to "age discrimination" among people may choose to give a second chance to an older pet.

Many older people have concerns about their ability to continue to care for a young animal for its entire lifetime. Adopting a new pet, who may live 15 or more years, is a long term commitment many older people may hesitate to make.

If you are interested in any of the animals listed below, come for a visit, or contact The Ark to discuss the pros and cons of "Golden Years" adoptions.

Ark cat LannaLANNA is a darling silver and black tabby, a spayed girl who still looks like a kitten although she's 8 years old. Lanna was fraidy-scared of everything when she first came to the shelter. Although this is still a daunting place for her, Lanna can be a friendly, affectionate kitty, hoping someone will recognize her finer qualities, and adopt her into their home. She been waiting an awfully long time. Click on her photo for a larger view.

Ark cat Purty GirlPURTY GIRL is a spayed 9 year-old dark gray and white sweetie. She's a bit shy but very friendly. Once she feels comfortable and has a bit of time to adjust to her new "forever" home, she'll be by your side hoping for attention. She has a medical problem with her vaginal area, nothing serious, but she does need a bit of assistance to stay nice and clean. An indoors only kitty, Purty Girl would be a quiet best friend enjoying time on a comfy lap with her very own person. Click on her photo for a larger view.

Ark cat RockyROCKY is a 5 year-old orange tiger, a friendly neutered male, easy going and affectionate. He's very affectionate, happy to be petted, delighted to be held, and totally contented curled up in a warm lap. When his person developed Alzheimer's, Rocky came to us along with his best friend, Snickers, who has since been adopted. Rocky is a wonderful boy, hoping for his new home very soon. Ark cat TokieTOKIE is a an impressive big boy, a short-haired buff and white neutered male born in August 2002. A Golden Years Pet (no adoption fee for seniors), surrendered when his elderly person died, he needs an indoors only home with no small children. Tokie is an affectionate fellow, a lap cat who loves to be held and petted. He gets along with both cats and dogs, and he does like to play. Click on his photo for a larger view.

Ark cat ZippyZIPPY is an unusually marked pastel tortoise shell born in March 2003. She was surrendered when her elderly person passed away. Zippy is an indoors-only girl who gets along with both cats and dogs. While she is quiet and unassuming, she does like to play. Zippy would like to share a quiet home with her very own person. Ark dog NapoleonNAPOLEON is a neutered black Lab, an elder statesman of 10+ years, born in September of 1999. He's mostly a quiet dog, barking only to let you know when someone is coming, or howling for a short time when he gets lonely. He has no health problems and seems in great shape for his age. He was surrendered because he's too big and strong walking on lead, and needs a fenced yard if left alone outside. He likes to be with his person and not outside by himself. Walks and car rides are favorite activities, but his favorite pastime is lying on the couch cuddled up next to his person. He's probably not good with cats, and because of his size, he needs a home with no small children. The Ark will waive his adoption fee to an approved home and may help with certain age-related medical expenses. Click on his photo for a larger view.
