Adoption Happy Endings

More happy endings: page 2, page 3

The Ark receives many letters, phone calls, and emails from happy adopters of Ark pets. We post a few here, to brighten your day. We hope to add a dog and a cat to these pages every week or two.

Buddy has a forever home.Buddy, an elderly black and white Border Collie mix, was surrendered in August because the couple he had been living with couldn't hear him when he cried softly at the door to go out, and he had accidents in the house. A year ago, they had found him as a stray and taken him into their home.
He seemed weak and shaky when he arrived on our doorstep, and he was clearly depressed at being abandoned yet again. Much needed dental work was done, relieving the pain, and he was put on a daily regimen of sea jerky to help his joints. In a short time, Buddy's health and interest in life drastically improved. Rather than dragging his feet on his walks, he began hustling right along, finding interesting things to investigate. Buddy was friendly with everyone he met, and clearly enjoyed spending time with any dog sharing the reception area with him.
He was adopted last week by a couple looking for a pal for their older dog. Their heartwarming is email below is a testimony to our philosophy that all pets deserve a second chance, not just the adoptable puppies and kittens which are so easy to place.

Hi there.
This is Maryann, and I'm writing to update you on Buddy! (or Bud as we call him).
He's really doing well...he and Shadow are beginning to bond....we take long walks (on leash) and they are both starting to enjoy sharing smells and sounds of the local creatures. Today they were both on the sofa together.
He enjoys chasing squirrels, but ignores the chickens, which is fabulous. We have a pretty isolated place up here (58 acres at a dead end bordered by the state park and greenbelt) so there is no traffic, and it's a nice safe place for him to play around the house. Of course, we are always with him and watch him, but it seems he's getting attached to us and keeps an eye on us as well. We've had other doggie visitors he's enjoyed, and last night he saw a moose, which seemed to impress him.
His appetite is good; it improves with the addition of ground beef or turkey. He also loves pupperoni. (and cool whip, but we won't go there)
He's been sleeping very soundly all night, right next to our bed (he snores) and there have been no problems at all with "housekeeping" issues. He lets us know when he wants to go out. The first evening and following morning, it was VERY frequent so we assumed it was just anxiety and we made lots of trips outside. He didn't scratch at the door at all yesterday or so far today... he seems to be OK with our schedule and really enjoys his indoor time. He is currently sleeping ON my feet under the computer desk.
Probably next week sometime we will start leaving the house for 15 minutes or so at a time to see how he reacts. I really think he'll be fine.
We're also doing some training and he's responding quite well... he seems to like it, especially when treats are involved. He's a great little guy... just what we all needed and I think he really likes us too!
I'll send you a picture soon of his great squirrel adventures and rest assured, we will take very good care of him. Even if there are "speed bumps", we will deal with them... he has a forever home.
Thanks for letting us take him home... he's really a wonderful new addition to our family.

Sincerely,
Maryann
