George: Where is my Home?

George. He came to us on a warm summer morning with his owner, who traveled a long way to surrender him to a quality shelter like ours, knowing the Ark only had George’s best interest at heart. With tears in the soon-to-be-previous-owner’s eyes, he asked what George’s day would look like: His routine, his environment. As a shelter employee, sometimes you have to have thick skin. Other times, the tears well up as you hear someone’s story.

Animals are surrendered because of many reasons. It is not our job as shelter staff to ridicule, judge, or make assumptions. We understand that life doesn’t always throw us the ball we need. It is instead our job to move the animal onto their second chance. But I digress…

George is a 7.5 year old chow/lab mix.  George has good qualities, and he needs a chance to show them. His coat, his need for belly rubs. The way he plays with a ball, his ability to learn tricks and shake paws. George is struggling in the shelter environment.

George will be happy in a woman-only home, with no children. George has demonstrated fear towards men, and anxiety with children. We feel that the handsome George will thrive in a home with no cats, and where the lady(s) in his life will take him hiking, walking, and playing ball. George can be very strong on a leash, so he may need a little time and patience with walking as well as a quality harness.

It is at this time that we ask our dear friends, community, and supporters for your help in George’s placement. We know that George’s home is out there- they just haven’t found him yet. Can you talk about George with your friends and co-workers tomorrow over lunch break? Could you share this article with your parents, or colleagues? Can you have a frank discussion about George’s needs?

We would prefer George to have multiple visits and time for bonding with his potential adopters before sending him home. If there is someone out there for George, we invite you to come be part of our Ark family while you build a bond with this him. Come see George, and play with him in a natural environment. Take him to the Bark Park behind the shelter and play ball with him. Rub his belly. Take him for a walk on our 80-acres of wilderness. Come in for a cup of coffee, and a chat. Then, we hope to see you again as you come back and continue bonding with George, and let him see that you will be the only lady in his life. Let him protect you, care for you, and keep you warm this winter. Above all, please remember that we at the Ark will do whatever we can to support you throughout the bonding process, adoption process, and post-adoption, to ensure you have the resources and support you need to provide our Ark pets with a loving and happy life.

Thank you for reading, caring, and being our community.

Sincerely,

Ark Administrator
