November-Adopt a Senior Pet Month

We at the Ark LOVE our senior pets! Did you know that some people actually love adopting seniors? Here are some reasons why:

There is less of a worry that your favorite pair of LL Bean boots will get chewed up! Most doggos who have grown into their adulthood tend to leave chewing behind as a favorite memory, as well as most potty accidents, hyper-activity, jumping, and other puppy-behaviors. Cats, who would have otherwise been climbing curtains and break-dancing on your back with Edward-Scizzorhand claws at 2am are now just basking in the sun and lounging through life. Most pets by the time they are seniors have grown into their own personalities- in other words, you know what you’re bringing home.

Some worries people have about adopting older fur friends is losing them too soon. While definitely a draw-back, you can look at it as a pawsitive instead: They are loved in some of their last years by someone who wanted them, and in turn they gave you some companionship and comfort you might otherwise not have had! Other furry babe-owners wonder about health problems in older pets. The harsh reality is that even when you adopt a YOUNG pet, you face the possibility of health problems and vet costs throughout the span of the pets life. I mean, when you adopt you are adpting FOR LIFE. (Let’s face it: That is the goal, and nothing less)! Additionally, some senior pets live out long healthy lives with no problems at all. Isn’t that wonderful?

Not only during November, but all year long, the Ark boasts the Golden Years Program, whereby we offer waived adoption fees for senior citizens (65+ older) and senior pets (8+ older). Of course, we graciously accept a donation of your choice in place of an adoption fee, as we do feed, shelter, and vet our senior pets as much as we do our little baby pets and we love them no less.

Check out our website for incoming seniors, and seniors already in house, or give us a call to chat more about some senior pets we have.
