Low-Cost Spay & Neuter

Help Fix ME – Statewide

A state program that helps low-income Mainers afford spay/neuter for their pets. Covers cats and large mixed-breed or pit bull-type dogs only. Funds are limited and not always open for applications.

Maine Animal Health Alliance

A nonprofit clinic in Augusta that provides low-cost spay/neuter, vaccines, and wellness care for Maine pets in need. Focused on keeping pets with their families and supporting local vets through training.

Community Spay-Neuter Clinic

Provides affordable spay/neuter and vaccine services for cats through their Topsham clinic.

Stitch in Time

The Ark’s voucher program for income-eligible Washington/Hancock County residents.

 

Low-Cost Vaccine Clinics

Maine Animal Health Alliance

A nonprofit clinic in Augusta that provides low-cost wellness exams, vaccines, and spay/neuter services for Maine pets in need. Focused on keeping pets with their families and supporting local vets through training.

PetVet at Tractor Supply

Provides affordable vaccine services for dogs and cats through their Ellsworth location on select dates. (Not finding the right date/time? Check their Holden or Bangor locations.)

ShotVet at PetSmart

Provides affordable vaccine services for dogs and cats on select dates at their Bangor location.

 

Pet Food Pantries

The Ark Pope Memorial Animal Shelter

We have a community pet food pantry right here at The Ark. We do our best to keep it stocked with essential food and supplies for dogs and cats, but the pantry relies on donations and stock cannot be guaranteed. You can visit the pantry during open hours, Tues-Sat, 12pm – 4pm.

Furry Friends Food Bank

Provides monthly pet food and litter to low-income seniors through the Furry Friends Food Bank, helping people keep their pets healthy and stay together.

Bar Harbor Food Pantry

Community food pantry on MDI that also offers pet food when available.

SPCA Hancock County

Provides pet food and supplies through their Pet Pantry program. Applications are required, and items depend on donations and availability. Located in Trenton.

Sullivan Animal Food Eatery (S.A.F.E.)

Provides free pet food for residents of Sullivan and nearby towns through the Sullivan Thrift Store.

Veterinary Emergencies

Eastern Maine Emergency Veterinary Clinic

Located in Holden as of 2025 (formerly in Brewer), this is our nearest after-hours/weekend emergency veterinary clinic.

Hardy’s Friends

The Ark Pope Memorial’s program financial assistance program for emergency veterinary care.

Red Rover Urgent Care Grants

Provides small grants (around $250) to help pet owners facing financial hardship cover urgent, life-saving veterinary care.
