Hold on to your horses…I’m sweet, and I sassy! I love to grab, give love bites, and keep you on your toes! I’m a really fun kitty to be around. I love to love you, but only on my terms. (All the good looking ladies are like this! Sheesh….)

Merida

Merida

My name is Merida. The cat lady at the Ark describes me as “sweet, patient, and very tolerant of others.” I guess you could say that I’m just a really good kitty. I’m only about a year old, so I’m still a baby kitten at heart.

Mittens

Mittens

My name is Mittens. I’m very shy, but I’m also super sweet and I’m a very calm boy. I would be PERFECT for an older person in a quieter home. I’m a little over three years old, so just the perfect amount of grown-up and baby!

Ark Receives $10,000 from the Belvedere Animal Welfare Fund

Ark Receives $10,000 from the Belvedere Animal Welfare Fund

We have some very exciting news!

The Ark Animal Shelter has received a $10,000 grant from the Belvedere Animal Fund of the Maine Community Foundation for The Ark Alley Cats Program (AACP) to TNR community cats and/or house ferals on the property.

In the next 18-months, the AACP goal is to spay/neuter 50 feral cats or more, either returning them to their colonies, or if needed, accommodating and housing the feral cats on shelter premises with a new building. The new building is where the ferals will be able to happily and safely free-roam the Ark property. This grant will help many cats in the Washington and Hancock area, reducing the population of unwanted cats. It is already promising to see so many friends and neighbors concerned about cats in  their own neighborhood, and looking out for their well-being. With help from these people, as well as our local ACO’s and volunteers, this work is made possible. AACP at the Ark will also be renting out traps and teaching individuals how to safely and humanely trap ferals.

“This grant will help pay for our new building, coming on property in late fall, as well as help with the program operation. For more information, call 546-3484.

Headquartered in Ellsworth, with additional personnel in Portland, Dover-Foxcroft, Rockport, and Mars Hill, the Maine Community Foundation works with donors and other partners to provide strong investments, personalized service, local expertise, and strategic giving to improve the quality of life for all Maine people. Greta

Greta

Greta is very positive, friendly and loving! She loves to look at you and wag her tail. She is very happy and has big, beautiful, alert eyes! She will stare at you as if you are the best things since sliced dog cookies. Greta LOVES chicken and other treats. She currently stays in the Shelter Manager’s office and sometimes eats her lunch. She is currently acting as the Assistant Shelter Manager, but she doesn’t really do much except look cute and boss us all around.

Please give us a call to discuss Greta. She needs to be in a very loving home, with someone who doesn’t mind a medication regimen, as she is on some meds. Greta would love to go home with you!\

Greta is a small dog (probably 10ish pounds) and is 8 years old.

Rollo and Hershey

Rollo and Hershey

These two pups are from the same litter, and both just as sweet as they can be (emmmmm, probably why they are names after candies). Anywho, these two do not need to be adopted together but we figured we’d share this cute picture of the two of them and let you all know they are ready to go home. We are accepting applications on both of these pups. Please give us a call to learn more! They are only a little over 3 months old.

While most people understand this (some people don’t, so we want to make sure everyone is aware), these two are puppies. They will have puppy behaviors such as chewing, needing work with manners, potty training, and proper socialization. Puppies need routine, consistency, exercise, and attention. We want to make sure that folks don’t take them home and then return them a few days later. They are PUPPIES and need to learn. Thank you so much for your interest/application on these two babies and we hope to talk to you soon about these sweet boys!

To learn more about Selena and what life with her by your side would look like, give us a call. She is more than ready to go home and be your bestie.

Harry

Harry

Toast

Toast

Toast is a very sweet dog but timid. Someone will need to be patient with his kind heart and his him through his shyness. Would you like to come meet him today? Toast is only a year old, so still just a babe!

Star

Star

Star, at only 10 months old, is just a babe waiting to cuddle.

Star is very submissive and shy, with a little bit of a timid side. She would really like to have a quiet and patient family to help her come out of her shell. Please open up your heart to take this girl as your own. Give us a call today!

Buddy

Buddy

This is Buddy, who is currently living with a wonderful foster. He is looking for his permanent home now. His name fits his personality, because he is such a sweet good boy. He will be a best buddy to someone that will be love him. He adores children, and loves women. He sometimes is scared of some men, perhaps from being mistreated. Buddy doesn’t like being alone. He needs someone that want a companion that involves him in their life. He has a very gentle soul. He loves to ride and go for walks and hikes. He gives lots and lots of affection. We can’t stress enough…he is a total love bug. He never barks. He listens very well with a kind tone. He wants to please. He was never taught commands or tricks like sit, shake, paw ect, but he is extremely well behaved. He is very calm, very mellow. He doesn’t play with toys. He is very patient. He is very, very, intelligent. Since I have been fostering him and taking him to work every day, everyone is impressed by his sweet personality. He has a crate at my business, with a blanket covering it, and the door is left open so he can come out when he wants. He is as quiet as a church mouse, and if any children come into my business, he comes out wagging his tail and giving kisses and love. Any other time he just naps while I work. He gets treats, and chin scratches frequently throughout the day, but people don’t even notice he is there. He needs his food softened with hot water because of damage someone inflicted on his mouth. But he doesn’t complain ever. He is a really special boy that warms anyone’s heart.
Please call us to set up a time to meet with Buddy after submitting your adoption application.  Buddy is not at the shelter, as he is in foster.
Buddy is 3 years old.

Sky

Sky

We are accepting applications now on Sky’s adoption.

Rampage

Rampage

If you like sweet dogs with alert ears, cute faces, deep soulful eyes and silk coats, you MUST meet the Ark’s Rampage. A superior blend of terrier and perhaps lab, this dog is the best of both worlds. Patient and kind, this boy is really putting on his best show so he can go home with his new family. At a little over a year old, this boy is still a pup. We really think Rampage would love to be in a family where he is simply just another kids. He’d love to have plenty of exercise, walkies, hikies, and zoomies around his new yard.

When he is outside playing in his run, he plays with the other dogs through the gate. While he gets protective around little dogs and sometimes guards, we think this dog might do ok with other canines given the right introduction and transition.

Full of energy, loves to play, and is ready to go home! We are currently accepting applications on Rampage’s adoption!
