Lady Belle

Lady Belle

Meet the lovely Lady Belle. We think she is quite stunning, and she is ready to go home! She is two years old, and looking to curl up in your lap. If you have questions about Lady Belle, or want to adopt her, call the shelter and make an appointment today!

Prince Louie

Prince Louie

Meet the 8 year-old papillon who is looking desperately for someone to foster him! Although his life has not been the best, he continues to take everything with grace and stride. Louie is not potty-trained, and will need someone versed in helping little dogs with some training. At times, he will need to wear a belly-band to reduce “marking’ as he is not yet neutered. We will make sure he is neutered while in foster care. We feel it’s very important for Prince Louie to be in a foster home rather than the shelter environment due to his needs. We also hope that the foster home would be a foster-to-adopt home. Prince Louie enjoys being held, and being with his people constantly. He loves car rides, sleeping on the bed with his folks, being in laps, and being carried around. As long as you are with him, he is happy! Prince Louie has a bit of a sore mouth with some work being done, so it is important that he have wet food for now, preferably mixed with water, as his water intake has been less than ideal. Prince Louie is an excellent dog, very “chill” and laid back. Big dogs tend to love him, as do little dogs and kitties too. He is very accustomed to being around other dogs, and would do best in a home with other furry friends. Prince Louie enjoys his time outside, and likes to romp in the grass. He likes to be at your heels and follow you everywhere!

We plan on being a bit particular about Louie’s foster home, but are welcoming foster application on his, and hope that you call the shelter today to make an appointment to meet him. We have ordered a front-hanging sling for the lucky foster who has the time and patience to spend with Louie, as at only 4 pounds, he would love to be close to you and be carried around!

Prince Louie will need frequent brushing and regular grooming due to his coat.

*Please understand that belly bands are recommended not just for your floors and furniture, but also for training purposes. Where he is not neutered, if he marks in your house it will leave a scent, which will in turn make an un-neutered male mark again.*

Urgent Needs at the Ark!

Urgent Needs at the Ark!

Hello Dear Friends,

We need some of the following items taken care of at our shelter. We are willing to hire someone reputable for our roofing needs, and possibly others. However, we are hoping to get some volunteers in to take care of some of these tasks.

Also, we are looking for someone to make a donation for our paint, so we can purchase paint to re-do the inside of our buildings.

  • The Bottle Shed has a leak in the roof that we need repaired
  • The Overhangs on the Modular leak-new overhand needed
  • The Upstairs cat ramps in the Farmhouse need to be sanded and painted, or replaced.
  • We will need to find a lawn maintenance person to take care of lawn mowing and weed whacking this spring/summer/fall.
  • The banking/skirting on the modular needs to be replaced.
  • Both buildings need to be repainted on the inside
  • In the modular, the door leading into the office area needs to be repaired/replaced.
  • The Bedding shed needs to have shingles replaced/redone, and has a leak.
  • The ISO 1 exit door needs to be painted to seal it.
  • The Kennel Room needs to have the cracks in the cement floor sealed as it’s very difficult to thoroughly clean feces and urine out of the cracks.
  • We need a n ew doorstep in front of the farmhouse by the walkway
  • There is a pile of of debris near the bottle shed that must be disposed of.

Please call Shaina Mugford, Shelter Administrator at (207) 271-1647 or (207) 546-3484 for more information.

Thank you!

“A Bunny’s Prayer”

Found in my crate on the side of the road

Not a dwelling in sight and I am so cold.

A friend picks me up and at the shelter I stay

Until someone comes along to take me away.

I hope they have carrots, I hope they have hay

I hope they understand I’ve been alone and afraid.

I want to trust them and someday I may

But until then I will twitch my nose and pray

That the family that comes will love me anyway.

Spring

Spring

Meet Spring! Shy and timid, she will need love, time and patience to come out of her shell once she goes home with you. We are confident that kitties that are shown routine, quiet, and some space of their own with TIME, patience, and an understanding of shy kitties, will often grow into more confident kitties one day at a time! Spring is two years old. She is very pretty and soft and needs a home to call her own.

Freddy

Freddy

This is Freddy, and though a bit shy at first, Freddy has really come around! He has become quite loving and charming, and also boasts some pretty debonaire looks and regal stature. We know Freddy looks like a Jaguar, but we can assure you he is just a normal cat that wants to lie on his bed, purr and eat treats. Freddy is two years old.

Jasmine

Jasmine

We would love to boast about our Jasmine for a second. With her gorgeous coat of fur, pretty eyes, and “look at me” walk, it’s no wonder this cat is a boss! Jasmine is great with people and very social, but she is certainly an alpha cat and can be a bit bossy towards other cats. I mean, look at her! She knows how to get her way…

Jasmine is three years old and ready to come home with you today.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth

Would you just look at this kitty? She is so pretty and unique looking. We really like her here at the shelter, but we know that Elizabeth will need to go to a home where the family is familiar with shy cats, and the time it can sometimes take for kitties to come out of their shell. We will need to know that the family is aware of her timidness, and are only going to push love on Elizabeth when she is ready. Do you have the patience, the time and the home to be able to help a shy cat grow into a blossoming kitty who loves like other kitties? Give us a call. She is two years old.

Callie

Callie

Callie is a lady-tuxedo kitty with striking eyes and adorable white-tipped paws. Not only does she have eyes that see into her beautiful soul, but she also is very personable and outgoing. She is available for adoption now, and ready to go to new family who will love her throughout her life! Callie it two years old.

Poppy

Poppy

We would like you to meet Poppy. She is pretty shy, and would really need someone who is familiar with working with shy kitties and willing to allow Poppy to slowly come out of her shell, while giving her patience, time and love. Poppy is a unique looking cat, with wild eyes and a beautiful coat. She is two years old, and ready to be given her chance to adjust to life in your home.

Pheobe

Pheobe

Little two year old Pheobe is beautiful, super loving and very friendly! If you would like to take her home, make an appointment today to come adopt her! She would love some catnip toys, and a lap to purr on.

Oscar

Oscar

Handsome. Charming. Silly. Playful. These are just a few of the words that describe Oscar. He is three years old, and hoping to go home soon to a big yard, a family that loves him, and someone who is willing to have him in their life forever. He is very loveable and he LOVES playing fetch with tennis balls and getting tons of affections. If you would like to learn more about Oscar, give the shelter a call! We will tell you all about him. He seems to do ok with a couple of the other dogs at the shelter, but would encourage/require a safe outside meet and greet with your dog and him prior to him going home without fencing in between them.

Abby

Abby

Abby is a one year old female lab mix who is very timid with strangers, but also very sweet. We would be seeking a family who is patient in allowing her to warm up and come out of her shell so she can be the dog that she deserves to be!

Duquie

Duquie

Duqui is a 6-month old gorgeous female Schnauzer mix with a unique brindle pattern. She is timid at first but when she comes around she is very super sweet. She may need to be separated or appropriately supervised sat meal time around other pups as she tends to be a little food aggressive. We will need a family who is willing to work with her on this behavior.
