Merida

Merida

My name is Merida. The cat lady at the Ark describes me as “sweet, patient, and very tolerant of others.” I guess you could say that I’m just a really good kitty. I’m only about a year old, so I’m still a baby kitten at heart.

Mittens

Mittens

My name is Mittens. I’m very shy, but I’m also super sweet and I’m a very calm boy. I would be PERFECT for an older person in a quieter home. I’m a little over three years old, so just the perfect amount of grown-up and baby!

Ark Receives $10,000 from the Belvedere Animal Welfare Fund

We have some very exciting news!

The Ark Animal Shelter has received a $10,000 grant from the Belvedere Animal Fund of the Maine Community Foundation for The Ark Alley Cats Program (AACP) to TNR community cats and/or house ferals on the property.

In the next 18-months, the AACP goal is to spay/neuter 50 feral cats or more, either returning them to their colonies, or if needed, accommodating and housing the feral cats on shelter premises with a new building. The new building is where the ferals will be able to happily and safely free-roam the Ark property. This grant will help many cats in the Washington and Hancock area, reducing the population of unwanted cats. It is already promising to see so many friends and neighbors concerned about cats in  their own neighborhood, and looking out for their well-being. With help from these people, as well as our local ACO’s and volunteers, this work is made possible. AACP at the Ark will also be renting out traps and teaching individuals how to safely and humanely trap ferals.

“This grant will help pay for our new building, coming on property in late fall, as well as help with the program operation. For more information, call 546-3484.

Headquartered in Ellsworth, with additional personnel in Portland, Dover-Foxcroft, Rockport, and Mars Hill, the Maine Community Foundation works with donors and other partners to provide strong investments, personalized service, local expertise, and strategic giving to improve the quality of life for all Maine people. Greta

Greta

Greta is very positive, friendly and loving! She loves to look at you and wag her tail. She is very happy and has big, beautiful, alert eyes! She will stare at you as if you are the best things since sliced dog cookies. Greta LOVES chicken and other treats. She currently stays in the Shelter Manager’s office and sometimes eats her lunch. She is currently acting as the Assistant Shelter Manager, but she doesn’t really do much except look cute and boss us all around.

Please give us a call to discuss Greta. She needs to be in a very loving home, with someone who doesn’t mind a medication regimen, as she is on some meds. Greta would love to go home with you!\

Greta is a small dog (probably 10ish pounds) and is 8 years old.
